An unforgettable vacation
It was an unforgettable Sicily holiday with her family, which awakened the love for lemons in the then young Nonna Gisella. The farm where she spent this special time was picturesquely situated among beautiful lemon trees, with a view of the impressive Etna and the blue sea sparkling in the summer sun. The unspoilt sound of nature and the aroma of Sicilian lemons were unalterably linked to this memories of youth. Just like her mother's homemade lemonade made from lemons she had collected herself, the intense smell of the essential oils of lemons coming out of the kitchen and the beauty of full baskets of lemons spread around the farm.
A lemon yellow friend
But what made this Sicily holiday a forever unforgettable experience for Nonna Gisella were the cheerfully chirping birds in the garden. One morning, hidden in a basket of lemons, she discovered a small yellow canary looking at her curiously. Carefully, so as not to frighten it, the young Italian woman came closer, but the little bird was very trusting and made no attempt to fly away. And so it happened that Nonna Gisella found her faithful friend for life with whom she grew old together.
A homemade limoncello
Back in her hometown of Verona, her little Licellino was always happiest when he could hide in baskets of lemons from Sicily. From then on Nonna Gisella always had fresh lemons in the house and loved to cook with them for the ever growing family. Especially her homemade limoncello made from real Sicilian lemons became a legend among family and friends. There was no family celebration without her limoncello - bright yellow like her little canary. And so it happened that after the life of little Licellino, Nonna Gisella used to paint a little yellow bird on the bottle labels of her homemade lemon liqueur to remind her of her lemon-yellow friend who had awakened in her a love for Sicilian lemons. The recipe for the limoncello was cultivated and refined over generations in the family and the name Licellino Limoncello and the drawing of the little canary on the label still remind us of the legacy of Nonna Gisella and her little Licellino.
Even today, Licellino Limoncello is made with selected Sicilian lemons according to the original recipe. The lemon peels are soaked in pure alcohol to extract the essential oils and aromas. The secret of Licellino Limoncello is the balanced sweetness, the fine acidity and the balance of fruitiness and the subtle bitter notes of the lemon peel. To achieve this, Licellino Limoncello is enhanced and perfected according to the secret family recipe.
